Our Team

Thomas Sheahan

Executive Vice Provost

The Executive Vice Provost works closely with the deans and academic institutes under the Provost’s Office to ensure alignment with the academic plan and support their aspirations. In addition, he oversees academic program development and governance, academic units and programs under the Provost’s office, institutional assessment and evaluation, and the Office of the Registrar. Tom Sheahan was appointed Executive Vice Provost in January 2022, and previously served as Senior Vice Provost for Curriculum and Programs since July of 2019. Prior to this appointment, he served as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the College of Engineering since 2011, overseeing undergraduate education, graduate programs in both traditional and applied degree fields, cooperative education, and a number of operational functions for the College. He was also previously responsible for College faculty affairs and oversaw the college budgeting process. From 2007 through 2010, he served as Interim Chair for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, where he has been on the faculty since 1991.

Waleed Meleis

Vice Provost for Graduate Education

Interim Vice Provost and Academic Lead – Oakland Campus

Waleed is Vice Provost for Graduate education where he works to provide graduate students with an outstanding academic experience across our colleges and campuses, increase the quality and sustainability of our graduate programs, and serve as the Provost’s Office’s academic point of contact for the development and management of graduate programs. Waleed joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He served as Associate Chair of ECE, and Associate Dean for Graduate Education for the College of Engineering.

Karolina Mellor

Associate Director of Academic Operations

As the Associate Director of Academic Operations, Karolina is devoted to ensuring an exceptional academic and student life experience for graduate students across various colleges and the global campus network. In this capacity, Dr. Mellor leads a dynamic portfolio of responsibilities, driving the development and execution of activities and events aimed at enhancing the academic journey of graduate students. Before joining Northeastern, Karolina played a leadership role at the Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, overseeing non-research programs that advanced sustainability and green chemistry through collaborations with both public and private entities, along with community engagement.
